Time Travel continues: 1960's

  

Everything wasnt all groovy back in the 1960s and we are learning a lot about the decade that seems to have shaken up more than a just a generation of young Americans.  Moving from what we learned about the 1950s we are now heading into the 1960s.  In talking about and researching the decades I decided that we are going to go about midway through the 60s and finish off our week with the sock hop.  Then when we return to our decades theme weeks (after Egypt next week) we will kick off with late 60's and 70's.  Here are a few good book resources you can get from Amazon or from your library..

 

    

Similar to last week, we will prepare a meal reminescent of the era, create a timeline, watch a show (shows) that were on air during the time and we will complete craft and art projects.  This decade offers some fun..GI Joe, Barbies, Etch a Sketch, the Easy Bake Oven and Skateboards and hitting the scene was the Flinstones, Alvin and the Chipmunks, the classic musicals, the Beatles, and more Elvis. Of course we will dive deep into history, the civil rights movement and remember JFK and the events leading up to his assassination.

 

 

 

 

We have found KC Library of Cultural History to be a great resource and starting point for our research.

The people history  is another great resource, the kids love comparing the prices of what things cost back then compared to what they do now.

Some crafts we are going to do might include, painting ceramics, making wooden jewelry, S&H green stamp play, visiting a glass blowing facility to name a few.  Have any craft ideas, favorite games or memories from the 1960s feel free to share in the comment section.
