So we are only 2 complete days into our China trip and the kids have really enjoyed themselves. The highlight has to be the fortune cookies we made with friends tonight. They are all learning to write their names in chinese symbols and a few favorite words too.
I found an easy to follow website with pictures and the easiest recipe here make fortune cookies. Although they were really hot and the kids couldnt handle them during the forming stage, they sure had fun coming up with fortunes to put inside them.
A lot more to enjoy coming up the rest of the week, making kites, dragons, a few traditional chinese meals, etc. We read all about the immigration tribulation of the Chinese during and after the Gold Rush. The kids asked a lot of questions about immigrants and who our ancestors are, and I love that our summer fun projects are opening up discussions like this. We decided to work on a geneology project together. And in perfect timing, Katie at designerdigitals has recently released a geneology book set ready for shutterly. I plan to post a week wrap up again this weekend.
My normal posts seem to have taken a back seat to our summer plans. Although I am still preparing menu's each week, its a bit time consuming to add them on Monday while we are just busy enjoying our summer activities that I had spelled out on Sunday. So I will try to sneak in a few things here and there and just let the blog continue to be a way of getting ideas out about what to do with your kids this summer. Here are the finds I forgot to share on the Sunday post - click the links I really think you will love the ideas you will see.
Story starter game over at RedBird Crafts... I first fell in love the the story stones she has over there, but the more time I spend over there meandering around her blog the more my wheels start turning, what wonderful ideas, and great photos to see them all.
Vermont Country Store how did I not know about this. Oh my goodness, I could get into trouble parked on that website too long. Just looking at these toys makes me smile.
Finding Home another great post over at Imaginchildhood.com all about using a compass.
Alphabet Crafts at Crafty Crow.
Mommy Coddle's sewing that stays at home... I am making one of these door hangers for each my kids this week. I absolutely fell in love with this idea and what it will mean through the years.

Kahlua Brownies with Browned Butter Icing (yeah, whats not to love)
I know I have mentioned them before, but I have been smelling the most wonderful fragrance throughtout the kitchen tonight and it wasnt the ragout that was simmering. It was a glorious candle from Linneas Lights. The box arrived to my surprise and inside was the most ellegantly packaged wonderful smelling candle, and adhered inside was a little box of matching matches, it was perfect, absolutely lovely. If you havent checked them out, you simply must. The make perfect gifts.
Well, thats it for now. Back later with more updates from China.
